OCTOPUS’S GARDEN

Brooklyn, New York
Completed 2019

Antoni Gaudí and his collaborators were masters of tile. His Barcelona sidewalk tiles have been replicated and mass-produced, and used in this bathroom to. . .  to. . . wait, they're morphing, alive, mutating. . .These fixed tiles are filled with movement—the glazing and pigment changes, the sculptural faces express themselves, the surfaces deepen, and an octopus emerges from a sea of white porcelain and ceramic.

Tiles handmade by Cristina Salas, brought to life by heat, steam and sunlight.
