Punjabi Dhaba Cities

Theoretical project for the development of new housing communities in India. As the much-needed infrastructure of India grows with the economy, a new type of satellite city is emerging, appealing to the rising middle class and turning its back on traditional architectural practices which are, by their low-tech approach, sustainable on a small scale. The project will be the design of a new, self-sustaining satellite city based on the organic building practices of Punjab using the Dhaba, or roadside pit-stop restaurants as an inspiration and starting point. The goal is to provide an alternative to the increasingly popular, western-influenced, glass-and-steel cities that exist in contrast with the culture and depend on outside energy and resources in order to function.
